If I ever find the time…
- Need one to get rid of those lame » (>>) characters that WordPress puts in Trackbacks, since they make the XML in the comment feeds not parse correctly
- A new spam plugin. I turned my old one off because it was blocking trackbacks and pingbacks, but I haven’t had time to fix it yet, and I’ve been getting an average of 200 spam comments a day. They all get moderated, so they don’t show up on the site, but it’s still getting kind of annoying.
i think it’s kinda lame that xml requires you to use the ascii numbers, not the character shortcuts. it means i have to google everytime i want to use something i don’t have memorized, cuz all my tools produce the shortcut style symbols.
can’t CDATA help here?
That’s because most tools suck.
Yes, you can use CDATA sections to put stuff that you don’t want the parser to parse, but that doesn’t apply in this case, since the XML in question is the RSS feed being generated by the blog software, and it goes into a regular text node. Actually, come to think of it, I don’t know if the RSS spec allows for CDATA sections – probably not.
P.S. – Is that the first time you’ve posted from work (and is “stitch” a disney reference)?
ya, most tools suck, but i still need something quicker than google for finding ascii codes. know of anything?
I don’t know about the trackback stuff since it doesn’t break in my blog but as I told you before this is the best spam plugin.
I just haven’t added it to the other blogs, only mine.
Since I started using it I only get 1-3 spams a week and they are only those dumb trackbacks with the post title replicated.
Looks like they already took care of #1 in the current version of WordPress – I need to upgrade.
As for ascii codes, I used to have a chart printed out that I would keep handy, but I haven’t used it in a while.
I will check out the other spam plugin. I am very wary about running plugins (especially spam ones) that I didn’t write myself, because I want to be sure that nothing is getting deleted that shouldn’t be.
$ man asciiif you are lucky, otherwise I’d go with a tatoo on your palm. Hey, that gives me a good idea for a 21st century circus act – Unicode Man!
Yeah, our development network has the disney theme.
when will people learn there are three t’s in tattoo
I don’t think we want to start a grammar / spelling war here.
(Especially since we all know who would win, ahem)
It’s only because that is the only word he notices misspelt.
He could have meant, “IĆ¢€™d go with a Tatoo on your palm.” But that would mean you could get “Tatoos” and he would want a midget on his palm which would also make sense.
I’ll learn how to spell tattoo after you memorize your ASCII table.
its thee ownly wurd iy noow houw too spel
I’d win…hands down!
