A yet-to-be-determined prize to the first person to guess who uttered the following words of wisdom:
- I think the baby-boomer parent ought to say, “I’ve learned from mistakes I may or may not have made.”
- You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.
- The power that be, well most of the power that be, sits right here.
- Rarely is the question asked, Is our children learning?
- Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream.
- I am mindful not only of preserving executive powers for myself, but for predecessors as well.

Martha remarked last night that some of my previous entries (such as the tagboard one) may have been a little too “saucy”, and people may not have understood that I was only attempting to be funny.
Well, for those of you who may be so easily offended, I only have this to say: Go away and never come back; I don’t like you.

Before anyone makes a fool of themselves and suggests that I add a tagboard to my blog, let me clear up the issue: I know about them, and I don’t want one. No offense to all you losers that do use them, however.

Remember the good old days when you may have considered all of America a “free speech zone”? Well, here’s a great article on one of the “accomplishments” of the current administration that attempts to correct that apparent flaw in the fundamental understanding of democracy (seems like the definition of that word is pretty flexible these days, eh?). Perhaps along with that amendment to prevent gay marriage they’ll sneak in another to do away with those other pesky ones we refer to as the Bill of Rights, (except of course for the 2nd - words are much more dangerous than guns). So remember this the next time you feel like expressing an independent thought; you may want to be sure that you’re securely caged in a chain link fence - for your own safety and that of the nation, of course.

I’ve added some links to some other blogs that I try to keep up with. Please don’t get offended if I didn’t add yours; it’s probably either because I either don’t read it often or just didn’t know about it. Feel free to tell yourself it’s the latter in case your feelings are hurt. If that doesn’t console you, you can ask me to link to you, and I might (be sure to say the magic word).

Since it seems to be the most popular form of blog posting, I feel compelled to complain about something that has been bothering me lately. Since moving, I’ve learned that I can no longer get DSL service at our new location and will have to go with cable internet service.
For quite some time, I have been using Speakeasy as my DSL ISP, and have been somewhat spoiled by their excellent technical expertise, non-intrusive policies regarding running servers, sharing service, etc., and the absolute best customer service I’ve encountered in any field.
Having said that it’s probably obvious why I’m dreading the upcoming move to cable internet service, Read More »

Speaking of such things, feel free to provide any feedback on my CSS customizations to this site. For those unfamiliar with the term, CSS is the recommended “language” for formatting HTML-based content, in other words defining the visual “style” of the page.
I copied the basic structure from the winner of the WordPress CSS Style Competition and tried to make it a little more to my tastes by changing the colors (mostly getting rid of the pink) and designing some new graphics in Photoshop, one for the scattered line behind the header and another for the borders with the Chineese symbols on them. If you look at the original, you will see why I needed to change these parts (no offense to the original artist).

I finally broke down and submitted to the irresistible lure of the blogging culture. In case you are thinking that I did it just in time for it to become “mainstream” enough for it to no longer be “cool”, I assure you that I have considered this at great length and ultimately decided that I don’t care. Either that or I’m so far ahead of my time that I’m envisioning a point in the future when everyone will get bored with it, thus making it unpopular again and therefore cool. So there.
Well, this is the first post I’m making to this thing. Seems like it should be something more profound, but since I have been so caught up in the tech side of things lately, I decided to include a link to a good article on web standards, one of my pet peeves. It should be of interest to those of you who are involved in maintaining web pages in some form or another.
