Google stuck in the mid 90’s

I noticed after copy/pasting that bit of code from the Googlefight result, that they are still using the FONT tag. What’s up with that?

Even on their main page, which seems to have a good, streamlined design (1 form field, 1 image, ~10 links) they don’t code it very efficiently. If they were to switch to XHTML/CSS, they could do the same thing with way less code per page, which is important for a site with that kind of traffic volume. Plus, it would still look just as good (same or better) in any browser released within the last few years, and would still be functional (just not as pretty) for those still clinging to their Netscape 4.x from 1997.

Is there anything more lame than…

… when people use “teh” instead of “the”?

At least Googlefight backs me up:

people who say teh
( 233 000
results
)
versus
people who say the
(18 000 000 results)
The winner is: people who say the

Another follow-up

… this time to the previous Batman protester story.

Looks like Robin and Spidey want in on the action too.

Target pt. 2

Here is a follow-up to one of my more popular recent posts, regarding the Target cart locks. I was out for a bike ride yesterday morning and decided to stop by and get some more pictures for the curious. (This blog would have a lot fewer pictures if my cell phone did not have a camera).

targetWheelHere is a close-up of the wheel itself (click for larger image). You can see that there is a metal piece sticking out from the inside which is allowed to rotate when the wheel is unlocked, and stuck when the wheel is locked, causing it to catch on the cart and prevent the wheel from spinning. Unfortunately, it also looks like anyone with a wrench could easily replace the special wheel with a normal one.
targetSignLineHere is a photo of the sign I posted the picture of, along with the corresponding boundary line on the ground.
targetLockedCartHere’s where someone apparently tried what we did the other day (or maybe they were just going to their car), the wheel locks when the cart is here, fairly far away from the actual entrance/exit.
targetEscapeHere is where I was finally able to escape with the cart, on the lower exit, running/riding the cart very fast right by the curb. The wheel did not lock, and I was able to ride it back up in the street, and back to the main entrance (above), where it locked when I came back in.

Saturday

parachutingPicture of the kids in the planeWe went to see the air show on Saturday, so the kids kind of got to see where I work for now (although you couldn’t actually see the building I’m in from the publicly accessible area). Here is a shot of them inside an army parachute plane - note Emma giving the peace sign, a girl after my own heart.

joesPicture of eating at Joe’sAfterwards, Riley asked if we could go to “Joe’s Shab Crack” for dinner; he is pretty good at coming up with humorous alterations of words. This one was actually pretty appropriate in my mind at the time, since the only other time we’d gone there was opening night, and we had to wait ~3 hours to eat. Once we finally did get a table, I decided on the chicken sandwich since I am not a fish person, and it was honestly the worst piece of chicken I have ever had. I don’t know how to describe it, but I couldn’t eat it. This time I had the burger though, and it was actually very good.

Gmail up for grabs

Yes, Gmail invites - or, as I am now affectionately referring to them - the AOL CDs of 2004…

These things are just sitting around gathering dust at this point. If there’s anyone left out there that doesn’t have a Gmail account yet, here are some free invites:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7

In case you’re wondering what you might do with one of these (other than the obvious), I would refer you to a previous post in reference to the GMail filesystem, which essentially allows you to use your 1GB of Gmail space as a drive on your system to store files in.
