Another annoyance

I know they’ve always done it, but it just doesn’t seem right for newspapers to endorse political candidates. I’m fine with celebrities doing it, since they are entitled to have their personal opinions and air them however they want to, but I think you should expect “news” sources to be unbiased when it comes to these things. Of course, they usually are not, but they don’t have to be so blatant about it. The job of any media (tv, radio, news, etc.) should not be to support any particular side, but to ask tough questions of both sides equally. Unfortunately, they’ve neglected the latter and chosen the former.

at least by endorcing something/someone, you know what their slant is.

I think a responsible editorial ethic doesn’t have to exclude endorsments. However, endorsments should never interfere with reporting. This is an entirely possible aproach to journalism, I’m not sure who’s practicing it though.

Good points; I guess it is better for them to come right out and say it than the alternative. A good example is the war coverage on TV (pick any network), where they go from pentagon press conference to administration spokesperson to paid ex-generals discussing strategy all day long, neglecting to give a voice to those with an opposing viewpoint. So much for the so-called “liberal media”.
