Pet peeve

In case anyone was wondering, drive-up ATMs are made for people to drive up, roll down their windows, do their business (quickly) and go. They are not made for people to pull up, park, open their door and get out (use the walk-up!) and proceed to sign all their checks and add everything up then finally put their card in and proceed to (slowly) complete the transaction. Especially when there is a line of cars behind them. Just thought I’d clear that up.

Bible Ban

The Republican National Committee recently admitted to sending direct mail in Arkansas and West Virginia, warning that “liberals” seek to ban the Bible.

“Outing the mainstream media”

I heard an interesting interview on NPR today with Michael Moore, talking about the 911 movie. One thing that struck me was what he described as the most surprising result of the film, in fact he said that it was the most frequent feedback he got on the film.

Ironically, it wasn’t even directly about the subject of the film; rather it was people asking “how come I’ve never seen that footage?”. This aspect also struck me the first time I saw the film. On the one hand you have the footage that the mainstream media just doesn’t show at all (ie: most of the stuff from Iraq that is seen in this film). But on the other, more subtle side, was the use of the uninterrupted shots of the people in question saying things that cannot be misinterpreted, or attributed to skillful editing.

The media loves to trim off the unflattering parts to produce their sound/video bites, but it’s quite another thing to see the parts before and after that give a lot of insight into how the person really feels. The outstanding example of this from the film for me was the shot of the president casually dressed giving an interview with a grassy hill in the background. He said something impassioned about “we’ve got to find and kill the terrorists before they kill us” with the most serious of facial expressions, then gave a few second pause for the sake of a good cut by the editors, and then switches to a cheerful smile and says “Now, watch this drive” as the camera zooms out to capture him resuming his golf game.

This “outing the mainstream media” will hopefully only continue as technologly progresses, and facilitates non-coporate media publishing, and anonimity which encourages the flow of information without fear of reprisal.

“Pro-Presidential Rally”

This was the title on a big banner accompanying a group on the Govt. Center corner of Victoria and Telephone (the usual Friday afternoon anti-war protest spot) this afternoon. The bottom of the banner said “support our troops”.

I’m not quite sure what a “pro-presidential” rally really means, but maybe I’ll start my own; I’m for a president who will support our troops as well. Specifically, I’d like one who supports them by:

The only thing I didn’t understand was this group who said they were supporting the troops was also carrying Bush/Cheney campaign signs…

I’m posting this from my phone

Just to prove that it works; looks like it does. And, by the way, I take back any negative comments about T-mobile data service; it is working perfectly now.

Gallery

Well, I put together a photo gallery with some of the pictures I had on my computer. Check the “Photo Gallery” link at the top of the side menu to get to it. There are some pretty old pictures in there that I had scanned a while back; I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of them. It has a comment system also if you want to comment on a particular picture.
