Bush Raises Tsunami Aid Tenfold to $350 Million
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush, under pressure over the pace and scale of American aid to Asian tsunami victims, abruptly raised the U.S. contribution tenfold to $350 million on Friday.
Credit where credit is due: I congratulate and applaud the administration for deciding to raise the figure, even if it was under the pressure of a very negative public reaction to the initial offer. Credit is also due to everyone who participated in applying the pressure. I guess a lot of other people felt the same way I did, and made their opinions known!
And on a personal note, from Real Live Preacher:
In the face of such unthinkable tragedy, we fall silent. But silence will not help. Those of us who choose to believe in a deity are stunned and troubled. Those who believe that life has meaning are stunned and troubled. Stunned and troubled is what we feel, but the essential question is, “What will we do?”

I guess “complaining” really does work.
Nice! =)
I meant that for Dan.
yet another example of why biblical instruction doesn’t really work out well in democratic society. where do the democratic process and the mandate to not complain mesh? sometime i’ll write a thesis on this.
I know we recently went through this whole complaining topic on Dan’s blog (I think that’s where it was), so I don’t know how much we want to get into it again. My view is that I’d hesitate to call this “complaining”.
Of course “complaining” is wrong, and the Bible frequently encourages us not to do it; but just because you’re calling for a change doesn’t necessarily mean you’re complaining.
Of course, blogging is a fertile ground for complaints, and I’ve probably crossed the line (between speaking out against what I perceive as an injustice and just plain complaining) more than once, but in this case I think it fell more on the side of the democratic responsibility to voice one’s opinion than the side of just whining and complaining.
I’d love to see the thesis, by the way. If it helps prevent procrastination, I could start nagging you and complaining until you get it done…
Sweet I might use that link.
Good old Akismet… I really need to get around to getting SK2 back on here.
