There is great interest in finding one paper bird in particular - as it has been signed by the prime minister himself.
Mr Thaksin has promised that the student who finds it will win a scholarship. (college education)
This is kind of an over-simplified response to a complex problem, but at least it’s better than dropping certain other things in a similarly illogical manner.

I wonder is the paper is recycled paper or if they will decomposs. What a bunch of literer’s.
It seems the kids love it but I wonder how the insurgents feel. I really hope it works though and it isn’t some stuppid b’day present for the king.
From what I’ve read, it was basically a failure (didn’t do much to decrease the violence), and I was wondering about the environmental impact as well.
Actually, I heard a follow-up to this but I didn’t want to post it because (A) it’s a real “downer”, and (B) I haven’t been able to find anything to back it up, so it might just be BS; anyway, the story I heard was that a group of people that were gathered waiting for the birds to drop were injured and/or killed by a land mine that they accidentally detonated.
Like I said before, even if it accomplishes nothing positive, it’s at least better than what some countries (not to mention any names) have been dropping recently in the mideast, with similar consequences (no positive accomplishment and many negative results).
