Martha commented the other day about how photo labs must be going out of business because of digital cameras. It reminded me of a couple of conversations I’ve had recently on the subject that basically ended concluded that most people just take pictures for the sake of sharing them with friends / family, etc., and now people do that online through one of the many photo sharing services (or old school - email).
Many of the photo services also have integrated print ordering, if you really want a hardcopy, but my question would be why? I guess some people still do stuff like scrapbooking, but I’d predict that even that will probably go away as they transition to using tools like photoshop, which would allow you to do a lot more creative stuff with the pictures and still keep unedited originals.

Scrapbooking will not go away. There will be people who love to do it and there is something really fun about sitting and looking at oneof those books with friends or family.
Look at me I’m number 6!
I guess I shouldn’t say “scrapbooking will go away”. What I meant was that it will evolve and no longer require hard-copy photos to be printed.
I’m just thinking that if I wanted to put together a scrapbook, I’d do it digitally, even if the end goal was still to print out hardcopy pages to put in a book, just because it gives you so many more creative options that you can’t have with hardcopy photos (transparency, etc.).
All I’m saying is that eventually more of the population (or at least the scrapbookers) will become familiar with that kind of software and move to doing it that way. Of course, I could be wrong, but I really think the only question is how soon that will happen. I say within 10 years.
