They wanted to fill all postions asap. Dont really know what happened after that. The CEO of SBC has a way of eliminating the unnecessary as it increases that greedy capitalist's bonuses. I believe IPTV will continue to stall for another year and then go big or away. If you listen to the ILECs IPTV is soo big. I guess they have 2 million users nationwide. One person I ran into in the wireless broadband world felt that IPTV was a joke going nowhere fast, big talk little reality. And that the cable and sat companies have already won the tv war. Another technology that is poor and cheap and they are testing is DSL over the power line. Supposed to be really " dirty " throwing off interference for ham radio signals. This if cheap enough would impact IPTV severly. I guess IPTV requires the major phone companies to commit tons of money and resources but is super slow in implementing. Future --- dont really know and only speculating. SBC has a sat tv offering now. I might get it as I am sick of Adelphia's billing errors and I am paying way more than promised etc on infinitum.
