Apple and Intel

Thread hijacking is the art of taking a forum discussion thread wildly off topic in the space of a single post.

While this can be an intentional act of trolling, it is often accidental - caused by other participants in the discussion responding to a throwaway remark, taking the thread off at a tangent to the original subject matter.

For an example, see this post, which was originally about WordPress, but is now discussing the Apple / Intel “scandal”.

More on Dan’s blog here.

“Go for no 5 times!!!”

ToysRUsBe prepared for a long series of some dumb questions the next time you buy something at ToysRUs.

The stupid thing about this paper was that it was taped onto every register, but the customers standing in the opposite line could totally see it (and take pictures of it).

To their credit, the cashiers don’t actually follow through with this ridiculous instruction.

The full story

on what all went on with Christian is here on Martha’s blog.

Randy and Kristi steal the spotlight

in the VC Star article covering the opening.

Here is a link to my copy of the article, so you don’t have to log in and register, which for some reason the Star tries to make people do, just to read articles. (Apparently they use a GUI HTML building tool too, because their original page was littered with unnecessary nested tables which I removed in my version).

Here is the original from their site.

Star Wars Review

Waiting in lineFront of line 1Front of line 2Yoda
OK, here is the Star Wars review you’ve all been waiting for. Actually, it’s more like I’ve been waiting to give, since I read the book a while ago, and haven’t been able to talk about it so as not to spoil anything for anyone else. Speaking of spoilers, I will be talking about things that happen in the movie, so if you don’t want to know those things beforehand, don’t click on the “more…” link below, which is where the actual review will be. If you are reading this using RSS (or a direct link to just this post), you won’t have that separator, so just stop reading after the next paragraph, which is just the review of waiting in line.

As I predicted, we were the coolest people in line. As you can see above, the reporters from the paper were very interested in the DVD viewing we were running, showing episode 2 while they were waiting in line. They may have also been hanging out just to partake in some of the free pizza that Randy had ordered. I actually didn’t get there until around 8pm, but luckily Randy was holding our place since the morning, and we were first in line. As I also predicted, we were not the dorkiest, as there were several groups in costume, some of whom were sporting the > $100 light sabers and at least one group of idiots actually fighting with them. One of them apparently broke theirs in the process.

OK, here comes the review of the movie itself.

Christian is home!

and Martha too, of course.

Countdown to Star Wars

Randy has been in line since this morning, saving our place at the front of the line. Since there are about six more people coming to join him, we have devised a strategy to not make everyone else behind us mad. Randy may be ordering pizzas later to share with the people in line, and when I go I will be bringing the previous episodes on DVD and we will watch them in line on my laptop (since it has a larger screen). I’m pretty sure there will be no one cooler (or as Martha would say, dorkier) in line than us.

Speaking of coming home tomorrow

Since Martha hasn’t been home since last Monday, it’s time for me to do some last minute cleaning. Actually, I’ve kept it pretty tidy the whole time, I only didn’t do those things that fall into the category of “don’t bother unless there’s someone that cares”, like making the beds.

Lunch!

Christian got to eat today for the first time, which is great progress. He may be able to come home tomorrow night.

I wonder

If the new version of Wordpress fixes that thing where it puts those annoying >> things in the trackbacks/pingbacks, which break the XML feeds. If not, time to add another plugin to the list.
