I was kind of surprised this weekend to find the audio of a FOX TV station (SD channel 6) being simulcast on 87.7 FM in San Diego. The frequencies between 87 and 92 are supposed to be reserved for noncommercial radio. This is usually a great thing, since in any town you go to you can head for the “bottom” of the dial and find at least one decent station. I would have thought this would be a violation of a law (or at least an FCC regulation).
On the way to San Diego on Friday, we experienced probably the worst extended period of traffic I’ve ever been in. It took us a little over 7 hours to get there, and the only time it wasn’t stop and go (mostly stop) was on the relatively short stretch (~17 miles) of the 73 toll road, then it was right back to bumper to bumper. In case you think I’m exaggerating, I’m not.
I don’t know if it was all the people going to SD this weekend for the “Pride Celebration“, the Street Scene, or just random tourism, but the influx of people was insane.
You may be wondering why we were stupid enough to go the 405 to the 5 route, but we figured that since the other way had been built up more lately, it wouldn’t make much difference, and we were leaving early enough to miss “rush hour” in LA. On the way back we wised up and took the old reliable 15 to 10 to 57 to 210 to 134 to 101 route, and made it back in a respectable 3.5 hours.
As you can see, I haven’t been blogging much lately. This is due to the combination of being very busy at work and making a concious decision not to spend so much time blogging at home also.
Don’t worry, I still intend to write, and definitely more than I have this week, but in the meantime if you’re really missing my posts, be sure to check out the podcast below. I’m going to attempt to stay away from the novels I tend to write and focus more on easy to digest articles, which I’m sure some people will be happy about.
Anyway, this weekend I will be away again (going to San Diego), so expect another slow couple days of blogging activity from me, just like last weekend.
Dan posted the first episode (more of a test run than a full show) of our podcast yesterday. He did a great job on the editing (it was originally about a 1.5 hour conversation) - there was a lot of stuff to cut out. Next time it will probably have a lot more content, since this one we kind of just decided to do spur of the moment (that afternoon).
The song (by Nathan) was excellent.
Now I just need to work on not saying “uh” so much. I noticed I did that a lot in the beginning part (maybe because I was distracted with something else at the time) but it cleared up after that; just need to be mindful of that in the future.

In case you didn’t notice, I haven’t been online at all this weekend, since we were camping at Casitas. We went to the water park yesterday, and I got sunburned pretty bad.
Hopefully, you all got a good laugh out of the spam that slipped through the filters while I was away. The fact that that still happens (even though less than one percent makes it through) has often made me think about working on a spam prevention plugin again, but I probably won’t be doing it anytime soon.
Of course, these are from last weekend, since I don’t get around to taking the pictures off my camera very often.
Dang, it’s hot lately. I just walked outside (@ midnight) and it felt like I was back in Hawaii again, just minus a little humidity.
Don’t get me wrong though - I’m definitely not complaining; I don’t know of anywhere that can beat this area in terms of weather.
Since at some point I’m going to be working on some WordPress podcasting software, I thought I’d start posting some audio every now and then, just to get a feel for how the WP system deals with it.
If you’re generally interested in the stuff I write about on here, you may like to listen to these, so feel free to subscribe using your podcasting software of choice, and every once in a while you may hear something you like.

… I’m still getting comments on this post. (Nathan - I would reference it by name, but that would only lead to more traffic on that subject).
I think I’m getting addicted to this home improvement stuff. Tonight before bed I quickly built the first shelf, for the monitor, along with the keyboard/mouse tray.
