Here’s a shot of my recently converted computer closet. I did this a while ago, but didn’t get around to posting the pictures until now. I ran the cables in and installed outlets, and a big fan in the top wall (that you can’t see in these pictures) that goes out to the garage to keep everything cool when the door is shut. In phase 2 I will put in more shelves and tidy everything up.

One Trackback
Just for Dan
I added some descriptions to the flickr photos from my computer closet post earlier. I still doubt anyone really cares, but I guess it’s a good idea just in case someone is interested.

We are putting jared back IN the closet. Hee hee
JB, it’s not visible at 11:00 PM.
Do you have a cisco router?
if i ever get a garage, my master plan is to have my “full office set up” in the garage, then route a usb line and hub up to a flat panel, keyboard, and mouse in a family room nitch to permit random surfing in the midst of household activities but force me (due to the usb monitor slowness) to go in the garage for doing real work/gaming.
What’s not visible? No, no Cisco equipment.
This actually isn’t any kind of office space for me as much as just a place to put a bunch of computers and network equipment so that they’re out of the way, but also in a place that I can get to them easily if I need to physically do something on them.
For day to day use, the door stays closed and I access them via ssh from the comfort of my laptop.
Do you have photos included in the recent blogs? If so those are not visible from my pc/sbc dsl connection in Ventura or here from a T in Westlake.
I can see the photo now 8:15 AM my time.
You have a monitor on in the closet.
I am envious, every home should have a server closet.
Two things:
You should have used notes so you could describe what is what in the picture. That is one of my favorite features of flickr.
A M$ WIRELESS ROUTER??????? Maybe your not as smart as I thought.
I think the pictures are pretty self explanatory. For anyone who would be interested, they would probably already recognize what is what, and those who wouldn’t recognize the equipment probably wouldn’t care to read about it either. I guess I could go back and add descriptions if you guys want more info.
The router was a $20 special at Costco a long time ago, and it’s actually a better router than most others I’ve tried (including most of the major brand home-level ones: D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, etc.) Not that there’s anything wrong with using Microsoft products, either. Let me know when you stop using Windows as the main OS on most of your non-Apple computers.
Okay I will.
I have read and heard so many bad reviews of that router that it wasn’t worth sending in rebates to get it for free let alone $20.
About flickr, if you labeled the pictures you might not get questions like, do you have a cisco router?
I have been using it for a long time, and I’ve found it to be as good or better than any other sub-$50 router I’ve used.
my daughter has the neighbor’s wireless router to go online with.
me too!
Closet communists, eh?
yes, my daughter is sharing the collective wireless, I have zip to do with any of it.
here at home I cannot see this picture on this post,
I can see the hallway photo.
closet?
I was just having a little fun with Dave.
Dave, try clicking the link in the post to go to my flickr account, and see if you see them there. These are all just links to my photos in flickr.
