Thanks to Dan for the link to this interesting article comparing the inner workings of Apple and MS.
Here are some quotes that I thought were interesting:
** Culture ** Very similar, actually. Both companies are filled with smart, fun people who love their work…
Apple is secretive… very secretive. Unless explicitely told otherwise, nothing leaves your group. Everything is on a need-to-know basis - you can’t even tell other Apple employees. If I wanted to find out information about, say, iPod, I would check the rumors sites. Didn’t have any chance of getting information out of my iPod friends. At Microsoft, though, you’re pretty much free to say whatever you want to whoever you want… especially within the company.
Steve Jobs is god (this is a fact at Apple and doesn’t express my own feelings ;-)). You shall not disobey the Steve. Bill Gates is just some guy…

This post reminds me of those ‘04 campaign ads.
You have a set motive, you pull what you want from an article or story and tailor it to convey your objective. You should be ashamed.
I don’t have an objective or motive; I was just quoting the things I thought were interesting and/or entertaining.
The first quote was positive about both companies, and the other two I just thought were interesting/humorous because they confirm my impressions of Apple.
I especially thought the last one was funny, since Gates is usually the one who is portrayed more negatively (even “evil” by some) than Jobs, but it would seem that the opposite may be the case.
I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything.
Suuure you’re not.
Being revered doesn’t make you evil, but demanding reverence when you don’t deserve it does. Maybe he deserves such respect. Hehehe… yeah right.
Dan, I could say the same thing in that you chose not to quote these particular parts, but I wouldn’t. You quoted the part that you found interesting; so did I.
I know, the post just seems “unbalanced”. I was going to take out the part, “This, I feel, is why Apple tends to have better UI’s than Microsoft, but also why I like Microsoft product better (I’d rather have features than pretty UI)” because I don’t agree with Microsoft having a better product but I kept it in because it would have read so pro-apple. Something the rest of my blog already is and the article is so not.
I just wanted to give you a hard time because if someone reads your post and doesn’t follow the link they would assume it’s proMS. No big deal since we already have made our blogs either pro-apple or con-apple.
When are we podcasting?
I don’t mind if people think it’s unbalanced, because I do kind of not like Apple, for several reasons. I’m not fanatical about it, but I’m not going to go out of my way to make sure I quote an article like this in a way that’s equal to both sides.
Yes, we should podcast again soon. I can’t do it on Friday though (going out for our anniversary).
