Christian and Emma had their spelling bee tonight. Christian ended up getting 5th (I think because he’s still a bit nervous about doing stuff like that in front of people), and Emma got second in her class.

YAY! Good job Emma and Christian! Randy said you guys were awesome.
smartar then me
Now for the long version with the little details that make life so fun. It was great!
Emma was dressed as a flapper, but she didn’t know it. Beautiful in her pink skirt and top with a rainbow boa drapped around her neck. I heard someone say to her with a little sarcastic humor, “Nice outfit, Emma!” She simply looked up and smiled and said, “Thanks” and skipped away to socialize with her friend. What an beautiful individual!
Then there was Christian. He was predicting the winner in his class, and he wasn’t naming himself. He had a totally positive yet nonchalant attitude about the whole thing. When I saw him after his class was done, I asked him what word he missed. He said he couldn’t remember. He said that he got 7th last year, 5th this year and would probably get 3rd next year. Not a hint of “I didn’t get first place, I’m a failure!” Now that’s a kid who knows he’s A-OK!
Then there was Riley. I saw him “hanging out” with his friends. The had all but taken over a whole row of the auditorium. A bunch of little 5 year old boys, laughing, jabbing one another, and acting squirrelly. But when I looked back at him and caught his eye, I winked at him; he winked back! His friends never knew ;).
Awesome kids.
reading that made me feel good.
