In an obvious attempt to move towards a more middle of the road reputation, Senator Clinton backs a proposed flag burning law. This is illustrative of the lame state of politics in our country in a number of ways. What should be even more obvious is that she has no chance of winning the presidency in 2008, regardless of the hype around that possibility.
- No conservatives will ever vote for Hillary Clinton, no matter what ridiculous laws (like this one) that she backs.
- I seriously doubt that either party would put a woman through the primaries and make her their party’s primary candidate. The only way there would ever be a woman president in 2008 would be if both parties decided to run one, which they would not do. The most likely choices from either side (probably Clinton and Rice) would probably result in Clinton winning, because Rice would not only have the sexists against her but also the racists. Despite all the progress we’ve made in this country, I believe there is still (unfortunately) a large group of people in this country (not to single out any areas of the country, but let’s just say they aren’t near large bodies of water) that are not ready to vote for either a woman or a non-white person as president.
PS - I really tried to think of an “… is good” second part to complete the title, but I can’t think of one, so the reference will probably not work out very well.

That’s what would make it such a great race. The researchers and statisticians would have a field day. They’d never figure out how all the opinion polls overlapped each other!
I would vote for her if she had a reasonable plan for positive fair ( that word is for you JB ) intelligent immigration reform.
Yeah, having a black woman president would advance our nation too fast. At the most we should have a woman VP, just as a token, I think this is what the reps have planned. The dems plan, wait till the last minute and pick the wrong person.
Dan, that was a great comment, and unfortunately probably right on.
Dave, you must be talking about Rice, because I KNOW you would never vote for Hillary
I’ll pass on the discussion on immigration for now…
if politics is so stupid why do you talk about them so much?
To point out the fact that it’s stupid. I still think important decisions are made by political leaders, and that we should have a voice in those matters, but I’m just saying that it’s stupid that stuff like this (the example above) is what takes up most of their attention, and they won’t make a move unless it is a good PR choice.
“they won’t make a move unless it is a good PR choice.”
I think that applies to just about everyone in government and every issue, unfortunately.
yeah, no one has any beliefs anymore. when the few do go “against party lines” they are heavily ridiculed. abolish political parties now!
I’m with you
