Now here’s some good tech news

Dell bundles Firefox with new systems
Dell UK has started bundling the open source Firefox browser with its desktop PC systems, a sales rep for the computer maker confirmed to vnunet.com.

Dell will also support the application…

It’s only in the UK for now, but I imagine it’s only a matter of time before this becomes common practice, and it’s probably this kind of thing that’s needed to finally get over the IE domination of the market (for the average user).

I wonder if they will set it to be the default browser, or leave IE as the default…

    Why Firefox?

In response to Kristi’s question here, let me outline my personal take on why everyone should use a browser other than IE…

Why does firefox/mozilla seem like it takes longer to load than internet explorer? Randy has tried to get me to use Mozilla like he does but it drives me crazy having to wait (ok- so it takes 10 seconds to pull up a site vs. IE’s 3 seconds- but still!).
And why is it so much better to use? I have no problems (popups, spam, etc…) with IE.

I believe that Firefox may be a little faster than Mozilla at loading pages (especially the latest version - 1.5), but if you’re talking about just the time it takes to load the browser (as in opening the application originally), IE has an advantage because it’s built into Windows, so a lot of the components it needs to load are already loaded before you start IE.

If it’s taking 10 seconds to actually load a page, then I think something may be wrong - I’ve never seen any noticeable difference in the page loading times between IE and Firefox (or Mozilla, which I used before Firefox came out).
