I'm pretty sure most blog spam is via trackback these days (rather than "commenting"), at least on WordPress, so that part isn't very surprising. It makes sense since there are fewer restrictions you can put on trackbacks (which are designed to be submitted by automated systems, very similar to spam) as opposed to comments, which are designed to be submitted by real people. The thing that doesn't make sense is how in the heck Akismet can flag this as OK. I thought their big advantage was their huge database that they can leverage to evaluate these submissions, but I think I can safely say that if this totally obvious spam can slip by, their filters suck. Oh.
