I knew you were teasing. I didn't mean to sound like I was taking it too seriously in that comment; I was only (calmly) explaining because you asked about the plural vs. singular person issue.

Geez. I was just teasing. I think a famous blogger guy once said, "I think that we may be taking this blogging thing too seriously."

This particular incident involved more than one person, because of the follow-up calls I made afterwards trying to rectify the situation. Not all of those people were necessarily involved in the police department, but I got the distinct impression that they pretty much knew that it was too big of a hassle for me to come up there and fight it, so they were going to refuse to help me at all.

After hearing other stories as well, it seems like (at least) a department wide policy to squeeze whatever money they can out of you, which is probably what drove that cop to issue that bogus ticket to me. I've heard (and so have you) similar remarks from actual police officers too, so it's not like I'm just making that up.

Just wondering. I just thought that since you said police-MEN, and I already knew you had a negative experience with ONE cop in Kern, that maybe you had had others. Kind of kidding, anyway. You know, generalizations, profiling, stereotypes, etc. Sorry. Forget it. ;)

Sorry about that, they're back now.

In my limited experience they're just jerks. My prime example is that this guy gave us a ticket (on the way back from the LAST mammoth trip) for Emma's carseat not being correctly buckled (after we had already been pulled over, so the kids were moving around etc.) because he was just pissed that he couldn't give me a speeding ticket like he originally pulled me over for, because he had no idea how fast I was going and I knew it.

I think I may have blogged that story before, but that's the basic summary. I tried to fight the ticket that time too, but they told me I could do it remotely, that I would have to drive up to that God forsaken hell hole and appear in court, so I decided it wasn't worth it.

Of course, my negative opinion of them as a group is completely unfair (and a bit of a joke, actually, if it didn't come across) since it is all based, like I said, on my limited personal experience and the stories I've heard second hand from other people. But if I can't poke fun at some hick cops now and then, I think that we may be taking this blogging thing too seriously.

Jared-are you censoring me? I've posted 2 comments that have been deleted. Hmmmmm. I only asked, why do you have a rather negative opinion of Kern county policemen? Is that inflamatory? Controversial? Just one little question!!!!!! ;)
