Sorry for the delay in posting lately, it’s been a bit hectic with moving. I feel like I’ve been going non-stop on that (aside from going to work) pretty much since last Friday (the 16th - and on and off that week leading up to it), until yesterday when we finally did something non-moving related.
One noteworthy aspect was some of the “gifts” the previous owners left for us. They did actually leave a few pieces of furniture that we had agreed on beforehand, but they also left an above average quantity of what can only be described as junk: boxes (and miscellaneous stuff not in boxes) throughout the house and the garage, old food in the refrigerator, etc. We got a dumpster at the old place, but I ended up filling it up (for the first round) primarily with stuff from here that we had to clear out.
To top it all off, we had to call the gas company out on two occasions to fix a total of THREE gas leaks (at the dryer valve, the heater, and the meter outside) which were periodically smelling up the garage and the rest of the house, depending on the direction of the breeze.
Sorry for the mini-rant / complaint, just wanted to vent that. I guess it’s a good sign that I feel like I finally have enough time to actually blog about it a bit, even if it is 1AM when I should be sleeping. That’s not to say that there isn’t still a lot left to do, but at least it seems to be coming together a bit, and we can breathe a little better now.

shouldn’t there be something in the purchase agreement about that kinda thing? you should bill them for your time cleaning up their crap.
Or you could put together a basket of baked goods, take it to their new house, and thank them for the gifts that they gave you. If you have any other extra time you could go to nickalderson.org. What? Spam? Where?
I don’t think there’s anything too specific like that, but even if there were it would not be worthwhile to pursue, since I doubt they would pay it and it wouldn’t be cost effective to sue them, even if I would consider something like that in this case (which I wouldn’t).
PS - Nick - They moved to Arizona, so that would be a bit of a drive, but it’s a good suggestion.
Congrats on the blog, although now Randy will probably be even less likely to get one, since it’s becoming more and more out of the ordinary to not have one.
I’ll add the link to your name in the top commenters list; just be ready for the flood in traffic that a link on my site usually generates, similar to the digg effect.
That was kind of weird how they left that stuff for you to throw out… especially the watered down soap, the shampoo in the shower, the molasses in the fridge, etc… It was a bizarre hodgepodge of gifts. And the shelves! I still am in awe of the shelves in your new place. AWESOME. I am with Nick- you should’ve sent them a gift basket…full of the stuff they left for you.
Wonder what the guy who’s moving out of our new condo will leave for us…can’t wait to find out!
Although if he left that really big cool Asian vase he has in the dinning area I would be most delighted…
Hopefully he will leave you a few crates of TP. He works for Proctor and Gambel and I saw a big stack of TP boxes in the garage
“old food in the refrigerator “.
that is rude.
I guess, if wasn’t anything good. Or was it stuff like
old bbq sauce or salad dressing.
The food stuff wasn’t necessarily “bad”, it’s just that groceries are (for the most part) stuff you want to buy for yourself, and most of it we just had to throw away.
There was a gas smell in the garage. It is good it’s fixed.
One thing about moving for us, we still have unopened boxes from
the move in Nov. 05.
Yeah Dave- Randy and I are the same way- we still have boxes that we didn’t unpack from our move a year ago! That will make it MUCH easier to move this time.
ha ha, Maybe I should just throw them away or auction them on ebay.
