I had to take my car in for a long overdue brake replacement today, and I have to say it was probably one of the easiest car service experiences I’ve ever had.
I knew that my brakes had been in need of service for quite a while now, so after I dropped it off for inspection I was expecting a call back with an insanely expensive estimate and a lecture about taking care of my car, like the car guy on that one Seinfeld episode. Instead, what I got was a (quick) call plainly telling me how much it would be for what needed to be done (which actually didn’t end up being that much) and no hint of a guilt trip; no attempts at upselling either. Even better, it was ready early, so I was only without my car for about 3/4ths of the day. While I was there to pick it up, I noticed tons of newspaper articles framed on their walls about all the awards they’ve won for best service department, so I guess that makes sense.
This only further cements my current position of only buying Honda cars from now on (or at least it would be my preference). Another eye-opening reminder of my stance on this was a while back when we were doing our home loan applications and had to find out the value of our cars. I was pretty surprised to find that my 2003 Civic has maintained a whopping 86% of its original value, while our only slightly older 2002 Montero is only worth 47% of what we paid for it at this point (which is actually kind of a bummer since it cost more than twice what the Honda did).

Ventura Toyota was a similar experience for me. Really great service. The price was right on the estimate, all done in a timely manner.
That Seinfeld episode was classic.
I called the car dealer near the mall 4 times with nice VMs and spoke with someone for a quote on a new transmission for my Isuzu and no call backs and no pricing. Just tried again and no answer in the service dept. This job will be over $ 2500. Guess they are busy.
Martha, better forget the Denali and start looking at the Odyssey. Looks pretty roomy.
