If you haven’t seen the documentary God Grew Tired of Us, I strongly recommend it. We just finished watching it; I’d seen excerpts before, but the whole thing is so worth watching.
It’s an amazing story, seeing boys who grew up and escaped from Sudan into refugee camps, and then eventually to America, watching them experience western culture for the first time. Their insights on our society are priceless.
The one about Christmas and how we celebrate it really struck me, in this season. If I can’t find a video clip of it to link to, I’ll make one and post on it here shortly.

I liked the Christmas part too. Western Christmas is way different than the basics. It’s a cultural thing now, not a Christian celebration.
Did you ever find a clip of this scene?? I’ve been looking for one forever!
Thanks!
Nevermind…. fiiinallly found one
Bless!
My favorite time of year starts Jan 3 ( after the holidays ) and ends Oct 30. Never liked the way Christmas is celebrated in our culture ( we might actually be close to agreeing on something ). I just try to hang on waiting for it to be over. I don’t watch commercials or listen to christmas music and it helps to avoid the school/church events.
I was feeling that way, too. Then I realized I could celebrate anyway I wanted to for Jesus’ birth. I don’t have to fall into any traditions that I don’t want to. Make it real.
