Moving day (or weekend, actually)

moving

moving

Today we helped Randy and Kristi move into their new place, and I had to post these photos I took on my phone of a particularly amusing moment.

The washer and dryer hookups are inside a closet that happens to leave no room to maneuver around the side to actually hook up everything.

As you can see from these pictures, what we ended up having to do was hanging Nick in over the narrow opening on top of the dryer (which was stacked on the washer), and having him dangle down the back and make the connections for the gas, vent, etc.

Hopefully Randy will post the pics he got on his camera to his Flickr account soon, partially because they will be better quality than these from my phone, and partially because he got one where he stuck the camera back in there and got a shot of Nick hanging upside down looking back up at the camera.

Oops

I forgot that I wanted to publicly thank Randy for an emergency babysitting session on Friday night. It was kind of last minute, since I had to take Martha out to dinner to make up for forgetting to meet her for lunch, even when it was my idea and we talked about it that morning. doh!

Happy B-day to Kristi

Of course, these are from last weekend, since I don’t get around to taking the pictures off my camera very often.

Randy and Kristi steal the spotlight

in the VC Star article covering the opening.

Here is a link to my copy of the article, so you don’t have to log in and register, which for some reason the Star tries to make people do, just to read articles. (Apparently they use a GUI HTML building tool too, because their original page was littered with unnecessary nested tables which I removed in my version).

Here is the original from their site.

Star Wars Review

Waiting in lineFront of line 1Front of line 2Yoda
OK, here is the Star Wars review you’ve all been waiting for. Actually, it’s more like I’ve been waiting to give, since I read the book a while ago, and haven’t been able to talk about it so as not to spoil anything for anyone else. Speaking of spoilers, I will be talking about things that happen in the movie, so if you don’t want to know those things beforehand, don’t click on the “more…” link below, which is where the actual review will be. If you are reading this using RSS (or a direct link to just this post), you won’t have that separator, so just stop reading after the next paragraph, which is just the review of waiting in line.

As I predicted, we were the coolest people in line. As you can see above, the reporters from the paper were very interested in the DVD viewing we were running, showing episode 2 while they were waiting in line. They may have also been hanging out just to partake in some of the free pizza that Randy had ordered. I actually didn’t get there until around 8pm, but luckily Randy was holding our place since the morning, and we were first in line. As I also predicted, we were not the dorkiest, as there were several groups in costume, some of whom were sporting the > $100 light sabers and at least one group of idiots actually fighting with them. One of them apparently broke theirs in the process.

OK, here comes the review of the movie itself.

Countdown to Star Wars

Randy has been in line since this morning, saving our place at the front of the line. Since there are about six more people coming to join him, we have devised a strategy to not make everyone else behind us mad. Randy may be ordering pizzas later to share with the people in line, and when I go I will be bringing the previous episodes on DVD and we will watch them in line on my laptop (since it has a larger screen). I’m pretty sure there will be no one cooler (or as Martha would say, dorkier) in line than us.
